An Easy Chicken Tikka Masala Recipe to Make at Home.

This Chicken Tikka Masala dish is one of my favorites; it’s like a warm embrace in a bowl, with its soft chicken pieces and a creamy sauce that’s spiced to perfection. I highly recommend it. Every mouthful is a lovely excursion through the most exquisite tastes that India has to offer, and I have reduced the procedures in order to make it quite approachable for you.

I can assure you that it is a dish that will appeal to a large number of people and will provide a sense of excitement to your dinner table without causing any inconvenience.

Ingredients you will need.

Chicken

Vegetable oil

1 cup plain yogurt

1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

2 tbsp. of ground ginger and garlic

1/2 tsp. red food coloring

1 tsp. yellow food coloring

Salt

2 tbsp. Kashmiri red chili powder

1 tbsp. turmeric powder

1 tbsp. crushed red chili flakes

1 tbsp. cumin powder

2 tbsp. garam masala

1 tbsp. coriander powder

2 tbsp. chaat masala

Follow along with the next process!

  • Whole chicken thighs or just thighs: I prefer using chicken thighs because they’re tender and juicy, but chicken breasts will work just as well.
  • Plain yogurt helps to tenderize the chicken and adds creaminess to the marinade. I prefer using any plain yogurt that will work.
  • Lemon juice adds a fresh, tangy flavor to the marinade. You can substitute with fresh lime juice.
  • Ground cumin offers a warm, earthy spice.
  • Kashmiri Chili Powder: This chili powder is known for its vibrant red colour and mild heat. If you don’t have Kashmiri chili powder, you can substitute it with regular chili powder; just be careful to use a milder version.
  • Fresh ginger imparts a zesty, pungent taste. Feel free to substitute with ground ginger, though fresh is always best.
  • Garlic adds a strong, aromatic flavor. Use as much or as little as you like.
  • Salt enhances all the flavors in the marinade.

A selection of chicken choices.

Boneless, skinless chicken thighs are typically suggested for chicken tikka because they are juicier and can endure high heat without drying out. But feel free to sub in chicken breast for a leaner alternative if you so choose.

According to people who are trying to watch their calorie consumption or stick to a leaner diet, they often choose chicken breast instead of chicken thighs since it has less fat and calories. Adding more time to the marinade or softly crushing the chicken to make it thinner might help keep it moist and tender while cooking.

Although chicken breasts don’t have the same intrinsic moisture as chicken thighs, they may be made more juicy with the right marinade and cooking methods. The chicken breast may easily turn tough and rubbery if cooked for too long, so be careful not to overcook it.

By the end, either chicken thighs or breasts may be used to make chicken tikka, and both will taste great. What’s most important is finding a solution that works for your unique dietary requirements and tastes.

For the marinade.

So let’s begin by marinating the chicken, shall we?  To a large mixing bowl, add the following ingredients: yogurt, lemon juice, vegetable oil, ginger, garlic, and all the dry spices. Add a teaspoon of salt to taste. Although a whisk may be a great utensil to combine all of the ingredients until they are completely incorporated,

After that, coat the chicken pieces, make sure that they are well covered in this delicious marinade, and set aside. Put the bowl in the refrigerator with the lid on. In order to get the most out of the tastes, you should let it sit for an hour, but if you have the opportunity, you could let it stay overnight.

How to serve chicken tikka.

Chicken tikka is a versatile dish that can be served in various ways, depending on personal preference and regional traditions. Here are some popular ways to serve chicken tikka:

  • For an appetizer, try serving chicken tikka on its own with lemon wedges as a garnish and some mint chutney or yogurt sauce on the side.
  • With Naan or Roti: Enjoy chicken tikka with freshly baked naan bread or roti. Wrap the tender chicken pieces in warm naan along with some sliced onions, tomatoes, and a dollop of yogurt sauce for a delicious roll or wrap.
  • In a Salad: Incorporate chicken tikka into a vibrant salad by tossing it with mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, and red onions. Drizzle with a light dressing of lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper for a refreshing meal.
  • With Rice: Serve chicken tikka with fragrant basmati rice for a hearty and satisfying meal. You can also add a side of dal (lentil curry) or vegetable curry to complete the meal.
  • In a Curry: Use leftover chicken tikka to make a rich and flavorful curry by simmering it in a tomato-based sauce along with cream or coconut milk. Garnish with fresh cilantro, and serve with rice or naan.
  • On Skewers: Thread chicken tikka onto skewers along with colourful bell peppers, onions, and cherry tomatoes for a visually appealing presentation at parties or gatherings.

Regardless of how you choose to serve it, chicken tikka is sure to delight your taste buds with its bold flavors and tender texture.

Tips!

  • Marinate Overnight: For the best flavor, marinate your chicken overnight. This allows the spices to fully infuse into the meat, resulting in more tender and flavorful chicken.
  • Control the Spice Level: Kashmiri chili powder is known for its vibrant colour more than its heat. If you’re using a substitute, be mindful of the spice level. Start with a small amount and adjust according to your heat tolerance.
  • Char the Chicken for Authentic Flavor: If you have the option, char the chicken on an open flame or a very hot grill. This adds a smoky flavor to the chicken, mimicking the traditional tandoori style.(Totally optional).
  • Chicken Choices: While boneless, skinless chicken thighs are recommended for their juiciness, you can also use chicken breast for a leaner option.
  • Sauce Consistency: If the sauce is too thick after adding the cream, you can thin it out with a little water or chicken broth to achieve your desired consistency.
  • Garnish Options: Garnish with fresh cilantro for a burst of colour and freshness. A squeeze of lemon juice can also be added just before serving for an extra-tangy flavor.
