The sweet rice with condensed milk that is prepared in the South African style is one of my personal favorites. If you were to serve me rice pudding on any day of the week, I would be just as happy.
During the time of apartheid, a whole generation severed their links to India. As a result of need and, more so, as a symbol of survival, South African Indian cuisine emerged in that region.
Certain readers have the misconception that we have titles for our meals, which is why I believe it is essential to provide an explanation for this. And although it’s possible that’s not the case, was there an option available?
Now that everything has been resolved, we can go on to the next step of my recipe. In the event that you have not yet prepared this sweet rice or kheer, I believe it is high time that you do so.

The dish of sweet rice evokes warm and fuzzy recollections of family get-togethers and other important occasions.
This delectable Indian pudding is typically served during religious gatherings and festivities. It never fails to live up to expectations on any occasion. According to my recollection, my grandmother substituted sugar for condensed milk.
On the other hand, I favor the rice pudding because of the richness that the condensed milk brings to it. There is also some butter or butter ghee that I add, which makes it even more delicious!
It is possible to prepare this dessert with either white rice or jasmine rice. Rice that is white may be obtained in the majority of spice shops. There is no difficulty in locating jasmine rice in large stores.
In the event that you are moving into a new residence, starting a new business, or acquiring a new vehicle, it is an absolute must. As part of the traditions that are expected of you in our culture. One of the things that you are obliged to do is cook something delectable for the day. At first glance, it would appear that this is a sign of wealth, success, and food. All of which would be beneficial to your endeavors and bring you positive outcomes.
When I was younger, I never had much of a liking for traditions; now, as I have grown older, I am beginning to develop a liking for them. The tiny Indian rituals are something that I really enjoy. I’m happy to part with them so long as they don’t go beyond what is strictly necessary.
Tips!
- Make sure you use a non-stick pot, as the milk and rice can make the pot quite hard to clean up afterwards.
- If you have extra time, you can soak the rice in cold water for up to 30 minutes; that will make the rice quicker to cook and creamier.

How should rice pudding be stored? The pudding should be cooled completely and then stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
Can rice pudding be frozen? Yes, it can last for up to 3 months, but you might notice a change in texture. Let it defrost in the refrigerator overnight.
